Android announced today the release of the last android update: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean that will bring plenty of new features and performance updates.
The latest Android OS automatically arranges onscreen icons around any new widgets or apps you choose to insert. Not only that, but you can also remove any unwanted apps and widgets with a simple swipe up and off the home screen to delete them.
"Android 4.1 is the fastest and smoothest version of Android yet. We’ve made improvements throughout the platform and added great new features for users and developers. This document provides a glimpse of what's new for developers". (says android for developers)
Firstly, Jelly Bean focuses on performance. More specifically, improving UI responsiveness. Google has dedicated a whole project codenamed Butter to improving Android performance
Android Jelly Bean has increased the vsync of the screen at 60 fps and that will visibly increase smoothness. Google showed two Galaxy Nexus smart phones absolutely identical, one running Ice Cream Sandwich and the other Jelly Bean to demonstrate the huge difference that Project Butter makes. It's really a big difference.
Once with the update to Android Jelly Bean Voice Typing will be now available offline. So you won't have to be connected to data or WiFi to use Voice Typing any more.
Android 4.1 reduces touch latency not only by synchronizing touch to vsync timing, but also by actually anticipating where your finger will be at the time of the screen refresh. This results in a more reactive and uniform touch response. In addition, after periods of inactivity, Android applies a CPU input boost at the next touch event, to make sure there’s no latency. Camera will be more intuitive and more fun to use once with the new user interface and gesture.
you can swipe sideways to access the gallery just like on the Windows Phone smart phones and You can then quickly delete images by swiping them off the screen.
In Android 4.1, the Android Browser and WebViews include these enhancements:
Jelly Bean will be available in July, with a developer SDK preview available right now on the Android Developers website.
