We all run to have the best smartphone with the best features, biggest screen, biggest camera resolution and so on . Some time we know it's a waste of money to keep buying every 3 to 6 months a new smartphone. So we buy from the ''black market''. From different auction or on-line shops. There you can find cheaper smart phones. But what keeps the price on this kind of shops?
First of all, when you buy from this kind of shops, like on-line auction or on-line shops with used devices, it's preferable to meet the seller to see the device first. I would never buy a device or gadget without to see it first so that's why I recommend to use a local on-line shop. Each country has one.
I think you noticed there you can find used phones, sometimes one week old with warranty much cheaper then official shops. There are people running for the last technology and for the best phone always. And they will always change very often phones, just to test top phones from all brands in search for the perfect one.
What keep the prices on those markets
I will take as example two top producers with two top sold devices, both from same period, both close to specifications (camera, ram, processor etc..) Samsung galaxy S2 and HTC sensation XE.
Both phones came on black market in the same time with the official release in stores worldwide. The new in box without contract price was very close. 520 euro for SG2 and 560 euro for XE while on black market 450 euro for both of them.
6 months later the prices in black market are 230 for SG2 and 320 for XE. But why? Because the number of sales on shops of the device. So Samsung sold a lot bigger number of devices and the price on black market went faster down for the SG2 and HTC sold a smaller number of XE and the price was kept up.
They are not top devices for any of those 2 producers now. Top devices for Samsung and HTC are Galaxy 3 and One x. I think the history will repeat, as I see the price of SG3 on black market after 3 months it's 450 euro while for HTC one x still 580. New Samsung Galaxy s3 is 669 while HTC one x 699 both free of contract.
